Geolocation
Looks up the approximate geographic location of an IP or domain. Returns city, country, coordinates, and ISP. A public API key is required for external requests — your own IP works without one.
Frequently asked questions
- How accurate is IP geolocation?
- City-level accuracy is typically within 50 km. Country-level is roughly 99% accurate. Geolocation uses commercial databases that map IP ranges to ISPs and their known locations — it is not GPS.
- Why does it show the wrong city?
- Mobile ISPs and large VPNs often route through a regional hub. Your "location" in the IP database is the ISP's registered location, not yours.
- Do I need an API key?
- Not for your own IP. External IP lookups require a free API key (available from your profile). A daily quota applies per user.
